FaithRED

Into the Middle Ages, the holy virgin Maria was painted with red hair... and angel appeared in red robes. At the altar of Isenheim, the color red in Christ’s robe embodies a whole series of symbols: Color of the martyrs and their blood, power and domination over life and death, but also faith, fulfillment and love. The robe reminds us of a blazing flame, and represents with it's striving against the sky, the symbol of the divine.

Was it a pure end in itself that moved the church in the 15th century, to occupy the color red negatively? Out of the Nordic Gods, they created the shape of the devil with red hairs and red beard. Women with red hair were immediately made into whores or supposed witches – who could be cleansed only of the influence of the „reds“ by the red fire. The church succeeded in „demonizing“ in the truest sense of the word the remainders of the heathen faith and at the same time the sexuality (with which the color red was also associated). However what meaning has RED today in the Christian teachings?
