Amenhotep the Heretic

A decline began under the „heretic king“ Amenhotep IV. Amenhotep IV, who later called himself Akhenaten (1353 ‑ 1335) had a wife by the name of Nefertiti, whom he loved ardently – today she is more famous than he is. Both in any case tried to force a monotheistic sun religion on the land. Akhenaten raised Aton, the sun disk, as the only God and moved his residency to Akhetaten. However after his death, the new religion disappeared again because it found little notice by the people. They turned back to the old traditions and Thebes once again became the capital... the pictures of this series clarify for me with an enormous urgency the three columns in the life of this man: Faith, love and intellect.
