In May 2004 something happened in the little town of Mäder, that was barely noticed by the general public, but was nonetheless a noteworthy event:
Aletha Prantl (Soprano) sang for the first time in the setting of a song recital, works (classifiable German Romantic period) of her father-in-law Josef „Pepi“ Prantl, deceased in 1951.
And that was the first time in 50 years that the music of this interesting – yet almost forgotten – composer from Austria were performed.
Quote of the composers granddaughter, Vera Prantl, 2005:
„Pepi Prantl was a young, rising, yet moderately popular musician, band leader and composer in the 1920s, a respected and valued composer and artist in Brasil in the 1930s and finally a very committed musician and musical director and music teacher, respectively, in Bludenz in the 1940s and 1950s.
In the 1960s – years after his death – his music was often broadcast on Austria radio. But as time went on, these recordings seemed to have been lost in the archives. Even his personal estate – many think bundles of notes – were brought together, were sorted and were.... put away. His work began to collect dust, and was forgotten. His outstanding and passionate music seemed to be lost....“
Josef Prantl’s most important works are the opera „Yara“, the operetta “The Twins“ (his early youthful works) and the orchestra piece „The House on the Mountain – Pictures from the Brasilian Garden“ (with 6 movements).
