Biunfeya series (2010/2011)
The (Aventurian) title of this series of works means “meadow elf” in real language. “Elves” (Old English “aelf”; German “elfen”/“elben”/“alben”) is the name given to a group of mythical creatures.
Unfortunately, the origin of the word is not absolutely clear. It could derive from the Latin word “albus” or the Germanic “albh” (white .... meaning: white ghostly apparition) or the Indo-Germanic “rbhu” (artistic, artist ... meaning: white magician).
The German dictionary Duden soberly refers to elves as “nature spirits”, other works speculate on the possible derivation of the word according to geographical origin via the word root “alb” (German “berg... elbe” = river from the mountains).
In this series of works, conceptual artist Martin Stock (mashART) portrays women in a unique way using pigment printing and mixed technique, which stylises them as white ghostly apparitions.
